CovertQ Privacy Policy

October 10, 2026

Your information stays on your phone

CovertQ Messenger keeps your information, your messages, and the specific details of your use of the app on the phone where you installed it. That includes your display name, your identity, your contacts, your conversations, and the message contents those conversations hold.

CovertQ does not collect that information for analysis or tracking. There is no CovertQ account, and the app does not send your information, messages, or usage to a CovertQ server.

Apple

If you get CovertQ from the App Store, Apple may collect anonymous usage data about the app. That collection is Apple’s. For that data, this policy is subject to Apple’s privacy policy.

Google

If you get CovertQ from Google Play, Google may collect data about the download, the installation, and the device it is installed on. When the device shares usage and diagnostics with Google, Google may also collect crash and performance information about the app. That collection is Google’s. For that data, this policy is subject to Google’s privacy policy.

Google may show CovertQ those crash and performance reports. They do not include your messages, your passphrase, or the identity stored on the phone. CovertQ does not receive your Google account. The app does not use Google advertising, analytics, or push services.

What you choose to send

A message is encrypted on your phone and delivered to the person you chose. CovertQ does not run a message server and does not read the contents. The other person receives what you sent them.

Delivery uses the Tor network. Tor carries the encrypted traffic. CovertQ does not operate Tor. Tor’s handling of connection data is described in the Tor Project privacy policy.

Invite and accept images are created on your phone. If you share one, you choose the destination with your phone’s share sheet.

Unlock

Your passphrase stays on your phone. The app uses it to protect the identity stored there. CovertQ does not keep a copy of the passphrase and does not receive it.

If you turn on fingerprint or face unlock, the phone’s operating system performs that check. CovertQ does not receive or store your fingerprint or face. The passphrase remains available when biometrics are not.

An early access code, when one is required, is checked on the phone. It is not sent to CovertQ.

Notifications

Notifications are created on your phone. CovertQ does not use Apple or Google push services to learn that your phone was contacted.

How long it stays

Messages you send are deleted from the phone automatically after a time you choose in the app. The default is 24 hours. You can set that period from 1 hour to 7 days. Messages you receive are deleted on the same schedule. If the other person has chosen a shorter period, the shorter one is used.

The rest of the information remains on that phone until you delete the conversation or wipe the identity in the app. Removing the app removes its local data, subject to the operating system. On Android, backup of the app is turned off.
